The International Symposium for Electronic Art (ISEA2009)

I got a proposal for a paper accepted for this! Yay!

I put in the proposal last November, and this year ISEA2009 is taking place in Belfast at the end of August. Only heard back today, as apparently they were drowning in applications and it took much more time to read through them all than expected. I noticed on their wesbite they have a third call for papers, closing on the 9th of March - I hope they are able to get through them all in time, considering finalised papers have to be submitted in April!

For those of you not familiar with art conferences, symposiums and annual events, ISEA is a big one on the calendar. I have been wanting to go for ages, even just as an attendee, so am really chuffed to have the opportunity to present there! The theme this year is Engaged Creativity in Mobile Environments so I am extra excited at seeing everyone else's work as well.

My paper is titled Mobile Augmentation: Graphical Tagging as a New Artform , so now all that writing I did for my transfer document can be put to good use. I am just so pleased that people outside my personal realm of academic and artist contacts find what I am doing interesting enough to give me public forum in which to show and discuss my work. When you’re doing a phd one can end up with tunnel vision, and you never really know whether you are becoming a total anorak in your field, or whether it actually is of interest to wider world at large.
